Sherief Gaber was born to Egyptian parents in Boston and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He travelled to Egypt regularly during his childhood and early youth, and returned to Cairo when the revolution started. He was a cofounder of Mosireen, a nonprofit media collective that has documented the protests and the violations of social justice.
