This week, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada will release its report on Canada’s shameful legacy with respect to the Indian Residential School program. As Justice Murray Sinclair has said in various interviews, the program impacted nearly all Aboriginal social indicators. Records show that at least 6,000 young people died in its care, although poor record keeping means that the number is likely much higher.
On Saturday, Justice Sinclair spoke at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences conference in Ottawa about what happened and what reconciliation might look like. Please watch the video below. Some parts can be quite emotional but it’s important for all of us to understand what happened.
