Policy Options columnist Tim Caulfield has won a 2017 Digital Publishing Award for his work in the magazine. Caulfield, who holds a Canada Research Chair in health law and policy and is a law professor at the University of Alberta, won in the category of Best Blog or Column, beating out six other finalists.

Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Ditchburn accepted the award on Caulfield’s behalf at a ceremony Thursday evening in Toronto. Ditchburn saluted Caulfield as “an important voice” in support of evidence and science, not just in Canada but internationally. Caulfield’s provocative “The Cure” columns centre on debunking the pseudo-scientific health and lifestyle trends that proliferate in today’s society. His influential book Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong about Everything? When Celebrity Culture and Science Clash received critical acclaim.

This was the first Digital Publishing Award for Policy Options, which transitioned from a print magazine to an entirely digital platform in the fall of 2015. Since then, the magazine has exponentially increased its readership and publishes daily on a wide range of public policy issues.

Other winners at the Digital Publishing Awards included the CBC, the Globe and Mail, Vice, HuffPost Canada, Discourse Media and L’actualité.
