The Council recommended that Canada adopt universal, single-payer pharmacare, and set out a plan for how to go about it.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Canada is an outlier: we have <a href=\"https:\/\/data.oecd.org\/healthres\/pharmaceutical-spending.htm\">among the highest per capita pharmaceutical spending<\/a> in the world, and are <a href=\"https:\/\/irpp.org\/research-studies\/universal-pharmacare-and-federalism-policy-options-for-canada\/\">the only OECD country<\/a> to have universal health insurance without drug coverage. We know the issues, and we\u2019ve been debating them since the dawn of Canadian medicare. So why hasn\u2019t there been more movement on this file?<\/p>\n<p>The IRPP\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/irpp.org\/people\/colin-busby\/\">Colin Busby<\/a>, who heads up the Faces of Aging research program, joins the podcast to discuss the history of pharmacare in Canada and the hurdles to implementation.
