Voter turnout is down…distrust in politicians is up…the growing negativity surrounding politics nowadays has raised the volume in the debate over the appropriate role and function of Canada’s federal government. Acclaimed author and scholar Donald J. Savoie sought to provide a Canadian take on the matter in his book What Is Government Good At? A Canadian Answer. Winner of the 18th Annual Donner Prize for the Best Public Policy Book by a Canadian, Savoie’s work examines what the federal government needs to do to improve public administration and regain the waning trust of Canadians.

We caught up with Donald Savoie via Skype, where he shared some key insights from his book.
